There are no modern Charlotte Mason educators that I know of that do not also consider themselves students. I like this quote because it is simply a reminder that the closer I can come to adhering to the philosophies and practices of Charlotte Mason, the closer the results will be to those of her own students who had a rich, varied, full education.
I find myself in an ongoing process of learning, application, and reflection, with the wish to be a careful observer of the children before me and to meet their unique needs in whatever manner is best. I think almost any material can be used in a Charlotte Mason way and that Charlotte Mason herself would have continued to learn about modern educational, science, technological, etc. advances and apply them to the practices within the principles she employed. I do not strive to recreate a PNEU school in my home, but to apply the philosophy to our family and the circumstances of our lives. A Charlotte Mason education is truly "an atmosphere, a discipline, a life" for both teacher and student alike.
These resources have helped me as I journey through my own understanding and application of the Charlotte Mason philosophy and method of education, and I am very grateful for them.
**The Original Homeschooling Series by Charlotte Mason
All six volumes are available on Ambleside Online thanks to the work of volunteers! If you would like to purchase a printed copy, please know that some available on Amazon have been pirated off of the Ambleside site. However, there is great news! There are several trustworthy publishers that now offer the series for sale.
Simply Charlotte Mason (SCM) reprinted the books with help of the Andreolas, who were the original publishers of the series in the United States (sometimes referred to as the "pink" volumes) and SCM books are available here.
The CM Plenary edition is my new favorite version of the volumes to date! I have owned the "pink" set for years, and several of them are beginning to fall apart. While I do not own any, I have no doubt that the SCM volumes are lovely and well made, as I have purchased many of their products. And I bought a copy of Ourselves from Living Book Press for my oldest to read as part of her school assignments in high school. It is very good quality as well, and she is enjoying reading it. You can't go wrong purchasing from either of those publishers! There are several things that make the CM Plenary version my favorite for my own personal use. You can read all about why in my Instagram post here.
In association with Ambleside Online, you can also get instructions on how to get a Kindle version of the series at Fisher Academy.
